WINFIELD – In the Winfield area, it’s going to get loud in an upcoming phase of the northern part of the CSVT project. PennDOT brief Union and Snyder County residents Thursday night about a controlled blasting program in the area of County Line Road.
The area is just west of Route 15 – is scheduled to begin in July or early August as PennDOT continues building the Winfield interchange portion of the CSVT. The blasts will be heard up to 1,300 feet away, says blasting contractor Jay Elkin.
Elkin says a typical blast lasts only one second. No blasting will be done at night. Blasting will continue for six months, but will not start until all homes within a quarter-mile of the planned blasts are inspected. Well water will also be tested in those areas.
Route 15 and County Line Road towards Park Road is closing June 28th and will remain closed until the completion of the CSVT project in 2024. Route 15 and County Line Road towards Route 11 will be closing next summer for two to three months. The exact dates and detour details are still being finalized. More than 90 people attended the meeting.
