Birth parents claim child was beaten while in county care

COAL TOWNSHIP – A Coal Township woman is claiming that her 5-year old daughter was beaten while in foster care. The claim came about when Mary Ruiz received a call from Geisinger Medical Center Thursday telling her that her daughter had injuries that she says came from another foster child in the care of a Penns Creek foster parent.

Ruiz documented the injuries on the 5-year-old’s buttocks, arms and legs with photographs that show apparent cuts and severe bruising. The Daily Item reports that Northumberland county Children and Youth are investigating the incident but declined to comment further.

According to DI, Ruiz had her kids taken from her home amid allegations that her and her husband were using drugs, which shes says is not true. (Christopher Elio)
