SUNBURY — Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Matulewicz says a program intended to collect restitution for victims receiving bad checks has been discontinued. Matulewicz says he decided in August to discontinue the “Bad Check Program” that was instituted several years ago, prior to his term in office.
He says after carefully examining the program, along with an analysis of the program’s success in collecting restitution, he determined the program “failed miserably.” All Northumberland County state and local police agencies have been notified to accept and investigate all complaints of “bad checks” from private citizens and businesses.
Matulewicz said his office will treat all bad check cases like the crimes they are and will be prosecuted the same way other crimes are addressed.
