Attempted Homicide-Suicide in Lycoming County

PENNSDALE – PennLive.com is reporting…One man is dead and a female is wounded in what state police are calling an attempted homicide-suicide in Lycoming County.  The incident that resulted in the death of 34-year-old Devin Joseph Brelsford  occurred about 11:15 p.m. Saturday along Auchmuty Road in the Pennsdale area.  Brelsford pulled out a gun and shot a 34-year-old woman before turning the gun on himself.  She is in the UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center and is recovering following surgery.  The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police gave this account of what occurred: Brelsford arrived at a campfire and began arguing with the 34-year-old woman whose name was not released.  Witnesses said he appeared to be intoxicated because he was slurring his words and stumbling about.  After several minutes of arguing, the female asked Brelsford to leave and that prompted him to challenge others to make him leave.  When no one responded, the female walked Brelsford to his car about 50 feet from the campfire where they continued to argue at the driver’s side door.  After about 10 minutes Brelsford opened the door, sat on the front seat and asked the woman to come closer.  When she was within a few feet, he pulled a handgun from behind his back and fired several rounds into her thoracic/abdomen area before shooting himself in the head.  The woman was rushed into a nearby house where friends, several of whom were paramedics, began treating her.  She was taken to UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center where she underwent surgery. Police said she is recovering.  Despite life-saving efforts, Brelsford was pronounced dead in an ambulance at a landing zone set up for a Geisinger helicopter. Brelsford’s address was not disclosed.
