MONTOUR – The US Army has yet to settle any of the damage claims related to the runaway blimp that crashed last October in central Pennsylvania. Pennlive.com reports the Army has received 32 claims for damages totaling $1,559,530 according to an army spokesman. That is an increase of four compared to what was last reported in April.
Although the Army has not released details of the claims, the one filed by PPL Electric Utilities is said to be a major one. Approximately 35,000 customers in Columbia, Montour, and Schuylkill counties lost power due to damaged lines.
The 243-foot blimp carrying sensitive surveillance equipment broke loose from its mooring at Aberdeen Proving Ground October 28. An Army spokesman has released a statement Thursday saying they are working to resolve the issue. The Army will continue to accept damage claims for two years from the date of the incident.
