SUNBURY– April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and a local organization is hosting a number of events to draw attention to the cause. Transitions is a crisis center that provides advocacy, empowerment and education to The Valley. Eckie Friar, education specialist at Transitions , was recently on WKOK Sunrise talking about their upcoming educational events. Their Cares for Kids workshop April 25th will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Selinsgrove.
Eckie Friar says the workshop focuses on nurturing healthy sexuality in children, “Care for Kids is a program we are doing in the Selinsgrove area but everybody is invited to attend. We talk to parents about the importance of them speaking to their children about their sexuality, and we talk about how the child develops sexually and age appropriate ways to discuss that with their children.”
The workshop is recommended for parents, caregivers and early childhood educators. There will be food and free child care on site, and the event is sponsored by the Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation.
Heather Shnyder, Education Specialist at Transitions also talked about their 30th Annual Auction saying, “We look forward to it every year there is always a fun time, silent auction, live auction, lots of good friends, lots of good food, lots of gathering to bring awareness to a good cause and the services we provide.”
Transitions annual auction will be June 1st at the Evert Dining Hall at Susquehanna University from more information on upcoming events at transitions website at transitions of pa.org
