PHILADELPHIA (AP) – An appeals court says federal disability law requires movie theaters to provide interpreters to patrons who are deaf and blind.  The Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Cinemark, the nation’s third-largest movie chain.  The case involved a Pennsylvania man who wanted to see the movie “Gone Girl” and sought a “tactile interpreter” from a Cinemark theater in Pittsburgh. The theater denied his request.

The plaintiff, Paul McGann, reads American Sign Language through touch.  The appeals court concluded Friday that tactile interpreters are covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act. It says Cinemark can still argue that providing the interpreters would be an “undue burden.”  The interpreters cost a few hundred dollars per showing. Plano, Texas-based Cinemark earned $257 million in 2016.  Cinemark officials didn’t immediately return an email seeking comment on the ruling.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is heading to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, next week to make his case for an overhaul of the nation’s tax code.  White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday the plan “is really a jobs bill.” Trump’s trip Wednesday to the state capital is aimed at building his case that tax cuts would help drive the economy.

Trump has promised Americans “the largest tax cut in our country’s history.” But for the poorest Americans households, Trump’s plan would amount to an average tax cut of about $60 a year, according to the Tax Policy Center. Middle-income families would get about $300 on average. Most of the cuts would go to the wealthiest Americans.  Trump last year became the first Republican presidential candidate to win Pennsylvania since 1988.

YORK, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say the son of a Pennsylvania mayor knocked her to the ground and kicked her several times in her back, head and face before a bystander intervened. The York Dispatch reports 30-year-old Brandon Anderson attacked York Mayor Kim Bracey last Saturday at her campaign headquarters. Authorities say he was arrested at the scene and charged with misdemeanor simple assault. Bracey released a statement Friday night saying her son is battling an opioid addiction.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia sports radio personality says he lost a weekly television gig after saying a female announcer calling an NFL game “sounds unnatural.” Mike Missanelli said on his radio show that he was fired from “Sports Sunday” on WPVI, the local ABC station. He says it’s because on Tuesday he questioned why ESPN was using Beth Mowins to do play-by-play on ESPN’s Monday Night Football double-header.

MEDFORD, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man who spent decades preparing his home for doomsday is donating all of his stored food to families affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.  Joseph Badame says he was prepared to lose his supplies anyway after the bank foreclosed on his Medford home.  The 74-year-old says he found a new use for the food after meeting a couple at an estate sale last month raising money to send to their family in Puerto Rico.

Victoria Martinez-Barber and her husband, Anthony Barber, say their family was left homeless and hungry after the hurricane struck late September.  Now, Badame is sending barrels of food that can sustain 84 people for four months.  Martinez-Barber says her family in Puerto Rico will share the food with anyone they can.

NEW YORK (AP) — A new book from Donald Trump’s first wife pulls back the curtain on a tumultuous period of the president’s life, including the messy divorce that was splashed across New York’s tabloids for weeks.  Ivana Trump, who was married to the real estate magnate from 1977 to 1992, writes in “Raising Trump” about the heartache that Trump’s public affair with Marla Maples caused her and the couple’s three children.

Donald Trump Jr. didn’t speak to his father for a year after the split.  But Ivana Trump and the president have returned to far warmer terms. She writes that they speak about once a week and that she encourages him to keep using Twitter.  The book is set to be released next week. The Associated Press purchased an early copy.

NEW YORK (AP) — A source with knowledge of the decision says Harvey Weinstein will be suspended from his film company pending an internal investigation into sexual harassment claims leveled against the Oscar winner.  The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, says an announcement on the suspension and investigation is expected on Friday. The decision was made by The Weinstein Co.’s board of directors.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Weinstein has over the years reached at least eight legal settlements with women over alleged harassment. Weinstein said Thursday that he was taking a leave of absence.  Leadership of The Weinstein Co. is expected to be assumed by Weinstein’s brother, Bob Weinstein, and David Glasser, the company’s chief operating officer and president.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – A St. Bernard in South Dakota has set a new, slobbery world record. Mochi, also known as Mo, holds the Guinness World Records title for having the longest tongue on a dog. It measures in at 7.31 inches. Mochi’s owner, Carla Rickert of Sioux Falls, says her dog is happy, but also has some breathing problems because of her long tongue and slobbers more than usual when she’s nervous. Mochi also needs to be given treats in a certain way and has problems picking items up from the floor. Mochi is listed in the new Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals book.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh and Nashville are in no mood to revisit last spring’s Stanley Cup final when the two-time defending champion Penguins host the Predators. The Penguins are winless through two games and gave up 10 goals in a loss to Chicago. The Predators fell to Boston in their opener. The game is a homecoming of sorts for Nashville forward Nick Bonino, who helped the Penguins win two Cups before signing with Nashville in the offseason.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown says his temper tantrum during a victory over Baltimore wasn’t meant as a show of disrespect toward quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Brown took down a water cooler on the sideline in anger after Roethlisberger failed to find Brown running wide open early in the game. Brown says he apologized to Roethlisberger and needs to do a better job of controlling his emotions going forward.
