(AP) — Members of a Penn State fraternity fighting charges they’re to blame for a pledge’s death are hoping a judge will decide they didn’t act recklessly or maliciously during a night of hazing and drinking earlier this year. Defense lawyers argued during a preliminary hearing Wednesday some or all of the charges against their clients should be dismissed before the case is sent to county court for trial.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A judge that a Pennsylvania prosecutor is accused of texting about cases both were involved with has received a letter of “counsel” from the Judicial Conduct Board. The letter to Centre County Judge Jonathan Grine says the actions were “serious” but don’t warrant further discipline. The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court has scheduled a Nov. 29 hearing to consider whether District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller committed professional misconduct.
READING, Pa. (AP) — Kindergartners and first-graders have started the year doubled up in single classes in an eastern Pennsylvania district, where a building project has been delayed by red tape. There have reportedly been 48 kindergartners in one classroom, and roughly 50 first-graders and two teachers in another at the 10th and Green Elementary School in Reading.
