A Super Bowl-winning linebacker, who has ties to the Susquehanna Valley, died Thursday night according to a WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh source. Andy Russell was part of the famed Steel Curtain defense and was the 1971 team MVP. He appeared in seven Pro Bowls and won Super Bowls IX and X with the Steelers.
Russell visited the Susquehanna Valley several times with the Andy Russell Foundation. The foundation helped to fund an all access playground in East Snyder Park in Selinsgrove. Russell, (shown on the right along with foundation Central PA Chapter President Fritz Heinemann) and his wife Cindy visited the playground in August 2019 following it’s opening a month earlier.
Andy Russell was 82.
