UPDATE: Danville PD say suspicious activity was cause for lock-down

5pm update: DANVILLE – Danville police are out with some information on the incident that locked down Danville area schools today. Police say they responded to a report of suspicious activity near the Danville High School. They say through an investigation it was confirmed that there was no credible threat. The investigation is ongoing and charges may be pending.

 

2pm update: DANVILLE — Danville Area School District superintendent Dr. Jason Bendle says police activity off campus prompted a lock-down at two Danville schools today. He said after they became aware of the police activity off school grounds, in their schools they implemented a lock-down at 11:50am the high school and primary school.

Students who were outdoors were brought back into the schools, and then no students were permitted outside. He said in classrooms, it was business as usual, and people were allowed to move around within the buildings. The lock-down was rescinded at 12:37, he said.

As for the incident that prompted the lock-down, he said the Montour County DA, along with Danville and Mahoning Township police are dealing with that, and on that, he would not comment.

 

1pm update: DANVILLE — The all clear has sounded at the Danville schools after the schools went on alert this morning.

The reason for the lock-down isn’t being disclosed but officials say the situation was brief and it is over and they were reacting to something that happened outside the school buildings.

Students on lock-down texted parents and others today, but police say they were not needed at the schoolsw and the lock-down lasted only a short time.
