SUNBURY – A performing arts center in Sunbury got a boost from the recently passed state budget. The Albright Center received a $200,000 grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Sen. John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick) and Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury) made the announcement Thursday at the Albright Center. John Shipman, co-chair of the Albright Center committee says the unrestricted funds will be used for a big project, “It is so exciting to have this kind of backing and support from our representatives. We will identify a project and it will be a wild factor. So, we are thankful to have the check.”

Bob Zimmerman, Albright Center co-chair says the grant will help move the Albright Center toward becoming an economic driver for downtown Sunbury, “We are so excited because it will help us with engineering studies, maybe some air conditioning studies, and stuff that we need to move up that ladder.”

The Albright Center is a project of Sunbury’s Revitalization Inc. and recently received $80,000 to create a banquet center in the basement from the Historical and Museum Commission.
