AccuWeather Winter Outlook: Bigger Snow Events Not Til Later Months

SUNBURY – AccuWeather says it’s a little tricky to give exact predictions for this winter in our area and across the country, but expect the second half of the season to be a little more active.

AccuWeather’s Chief Long Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok, “It all kinda shows that temperatures are not going to be excessively cold at this point, but as we get toward the second half of the season, either January, or getting to late February, early March, we may start to see some problems and different changes to the storm track that could bring some more snow.”

Pastelok adds warmer temperatures early in the winter season could mean more rain and ice to start. He expects this similar outlook for our area, “Temperatures could end up about a degree or two above normal for the three-month December through February time period, but don’t rule out the possibility, again, in that second half of January, and then another period in late February, early March, where it could get a little more exciting.”

Despite the warmer outlook for the first set of winter months, Pastelok says November looks to be the coldest of those early months, which makes a plowable snow event possible – and we might even see some flakes soon.
