DANVILLE — America’s 250th anniversary officially reached central Pennsylvania as the America250PA kickoff entourage visited multiple counties. Montour County Commissioner Rebecca Dressler welcomed dozens of guests and visitors. Dressler said, “Montour County’s history reflects those same ideals. From our early farming communities and river trade along the Susquehanna to the iron industry and railroads that power the Pennsylvania’s growth, this county has played an important role in the commonwealth’s story.”
Local and state officials marked the start of months of events leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026. State Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver said, “You see it in how the neighbors look out for one another…how the local leaders solve problems and how families invest in their towns and their schools. Montour County’s story is built on resilience, service and practical can-do spirit that has always been a part of Pennsylvania. That is what exactly the America250PA is meant to highlight.”
Organizers outlined plans including races, parades, and numerous other activities. The initiative highlights Pennsylvania’s role in US history while encouraging local participation. A regional calendar of events is now available through America250PA.
