HARRISBURG – You’ll soon be able to go faster on many interstates in Pennsylvania. PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission announced Monday that nearly 1,000 miles of roadway in the state will be posted with 70 mile per hour speed limits.
In the Valley, Interstate 80 and Route 15 will have the higher speed limit. On I-80, 70 mph will be allowed from mile marker 195 in Union County to mile marker 247 in Columbia County. On Route 15, it will be posted from the interchange with Route 14 in Lycoming County north to the New York state border.
PennDOT secretary Leslie Richards says they considered a number of factors in deciding where 70 mph limits could be safely permitted. The new speed limits go into effect Tuesday. Crews will begin replacing signs this week.
