Grants Given to Small Electric Utilities in Sullivan, Lycoming

HARRISBURG – State funding will be given to one of the regional rural electric cooperatives in rural Sullivan and Lycoming Counties.

A $2.1 million DEP Grid Resilience Grant will be given to the Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative. That cooperative serves customers in Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, and Wyoming Counties

The state says, “The funding will be for the installation of advanced satellite imagery and machine learning technology to provide comprehensive visibility of 2,800 miles of power lines.”

DEP says additionally, over 50 smart grid devices will be implemented to increase control and visibility. The project will bring cooperative outage duration per member annually from over 34 hours to below 7 hours by 2028.
