NORTHUMBERLAND – Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society announced plans for design and construction of a riverboat that would be moored in a new slip to be dug north of the Sea Scout dock in Northumberland. The group Sunday held an unveiling of a riverboat that could be sailing on Lake Augusta as early as 2025.
The group said they would have a boat built, then lease land from Northumberland, set up a ticket booth and gazebo. The large boat would have two decks, a capacity of about 120 people and would look much like the Hiawatha Riverboat in Williamsport.
They said there could be regular cruises, dinner cruises, and would be available for charters and fundraisers. They saw the boat as a nearly limitless driver of economic and tourism activity, and a nice addition and picnic spot near the river. The Central Susquehanna River Boat Society has more on their Facebook page.
