COAL TOWNSHIP – An inmate death is under investigation at SCI Coal Township.
The superintendent of the State Correctional Institution says 24-year-old Andrew Shawgo, of Waterford, PA, in Erie County, was unresponsive in his cell last Friday. He says prison staff provided life-saving measures; Shawgo was taken to Geisinger and then pronounced dead at Geisinger Monday.
He was serving a 4-to-8-year sentence for making terroristic conviction from Venango County. State police and the Northumberland County Coroner’s office are investigating.
