SUNBURY, PA – The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA and the Middlecreek Area Community Center (MACC) have announced the two organizations are merging. The Middlecreek Area Community Center in Beaver Springs will become a new branch of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA.
This new partnership, over 5 years in the making, began with discussions with community leaders from Western Snyder County, YMCA board members, and Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA CEO Bonnie McDowell. A task force was created to explore each other’s organizations and evaluate the feasibility of such a venture. Ultimately, the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA conducted a Community Needs Assessment in the Middlecreek area of Snyder County and concluded that the MACC merging with the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA was the best course of action to allow both organizations to effectively serve the residents of Snyder County.
Melanie Rager, MACC Board President, said, “The MACC Board of Directors fully supports this merger with the YMCA and is very excited to see it come to fruition. There were many hours spent discussing the best path forward for the employees and the community. For the board, it’s about the community. We want to be able to continue to provide programs, resources, and stability to our surrounding neighbors. We have the community’s best interests at heart.” Members and staff of the MACC will become part of the larger, well-established YMCA family and all MACC employees will be retained.
Terri Locke, Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA Board President said, “The Board of Directors and staff of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA are excited about the partnership with the MACC. We believe this will allow us to continue to carry out our mission of serving and impacting lives in Snyder County.” Locke continued, “The GSV Y’s strategic plan includes expanding their reach to better serve more communities. This merger falls directly in line with that plan, and those goals will provide a vision into the future. The journey ahead will be filled with collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to making the community an even better place for all.”
