Flood Watch Posted During Labor Day with Heavy Rains Forecast

STATE COLLEGE – How can you have a three inch rainfall deficit and a flood watch?

That is what is happening right now in The Valley. Our Valley is in a drought watch, meaning voluntary conservation is being encouraged.

Today, the National Weather Service has posted a flood watch because of heavy rain today.

Our area received one half inch, to one inch of rain so far from rain and thunderstorms today. The flood watch posting includes, “Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations…Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop through the day, and continue through the night.”

The National Weather Service says, “Some of these storms will move slowly and produce heavy downpours. Many areas will have multiple showers and thunderstorms today and tonight, leading to the possibility of flash flooding. Locations which received heavy rain on Sunday will be most at risk to have flooding occur.”
