UPDATE: Counseling Available After Crash Kills Shikellamy Student

SUNBURY – Counseling is available at Shikellamy High School after a 17-year-old student died in a crash last weekend.

The Shikellamy School District announced on social media Monday it was saddened by the tragic loss of one of its high school students. They said counseling services are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the high school and from 12-3 p.m. at the Shikellamy Middle School.

Those services will also available Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the high school and middle school.

State police say the unidentified 17-year-old female from Sunbury was a passenger in a car that crashed on Renns Road around 10 am Sunday in Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County.

Troopers don’t disclose the names of teens involved in any incident, so the name of the 16-year-old driver, and the other teens on board the car, aren’t being released.

The car, they say, hit a rock on the shoulder of the road, went across the road, hit a stump, went off the road, down an embankment and hit a tree.

The 17-year-old fatal victim died at the scene, two other teens were taken to the hospital.

Numerous first responders were at the scene of that incident.
