State Rep. Rowe Remarks on the “State of Pennsylvania”

SUNBURY – “There’s not a lot we can do about inflation, but we can ease the pain of it” . . . That’s the opinion of State Representative David Rowe (R-85th, Lewisburg), who visited our On The Mark studios recently.

Rep. Rowe said federal issues govern prices but believes the state government can lessen that effect on the public, “On the state level, there’s not a lot we can do about inflation, and the biggest way to ease the pain of inflation is to shrink the size and scope of state government – not increase spending, not increase registration fees, not increase licensing barriers. Those are the sorts of things that exacerbate inflationary issues.”

Rowe said lawmaker’s couldn’t agree on one big help for Pennsylvanians, “A gas tax holiday sounds really good on paper, but without meaningful spending cuts to accommodate it, you just end up with a larger budgetary deficit. So I would prefer to see a permanent, long-term cut – both in the state budget and in the gas tax – so it can be a sustainable reduction in spending.”

Another major concern is the sinking railroad tracks in Winfield, “I definitely wouldn’t be the best guy to fix it,” Rowe said, “but I can report that Senator Yaw and I received a grant for the Route 15 crossing, so that should be fixed hopefully later this year, once everything is lined up and ready to go.”
