Sen. Gordner Supporting Sen. Mastriano for Governor
HARRISBURG – On WKOK’s On The Mark, State Senator John Gordner (R-27th, Berwick) says he is supporting GOP Gubernatorial nominee Doug Mastriano. This comes after Senator Gordner initially supported former U.S. Congressman Lou Barletta in the spring primary.
“He serves in our caucus. He’s a decorated war veteran, very strong in his beliefs, and compared to the direction his opponent (Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate and current State Attorney General Josh Shapiro) will take our state, then I believe it’s important to have a Republican governor.”
When asked if Mastriano can win despite GOP concerns about his ultra-right wing views, Gordner says it’s definitely possible, “No one thought that (former President) Donald Trump could be elected President back in 2016.”
“There’s certainly some folks on the Republican side that said Doug Mastriano just is a fringe candidate and can’t get more than 17 or 18% of the vote in the Republican Primary and he trounced everyone,” he said.
Gordner also says he expects a ‘red wave’ come November.
