SHAMOKIN DAM – Work is going well on the fabridam repair project and so far the Susquehanna River is cooperating. Officials including state house member Lynda Schelgel Culver (R-108th, Sunbury) said the $1 million project is progressing.
Schlegel Culver, the park manager and the construction company said they are working on two areas on the dam.
The bag six coffer dam and causeway are both in place according to Schelgel Culver. Bay six is where a damaged fabridam bag was removed, faulty bolts were tested and removed and now repairs are underway. Bag six is not on site but could be delivered next week and installed then.
Bag seven is being patched and tested, and flashboards could be removed soon. There has been no change in the August estimate for inflation of the dam. The river is at a normal summer level, 7.75 feet at Sunbury and is holding steady at that level.
Last year, high water prevented completion of the work on the fabridam at Sunbury.
