May 211 Report: Housing, Rent, Still Big Issues
WILKES-BARRE – With gas prices and inflation higher than ever, Valley residents continue dialing 2-1-1 for assistance with rent and housing. That’s the word from the Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, who’s been distributing monthly 2-1-1 reports.
The association says in May, there were 149 contacts from our area, most of which included seeking help paying monthly rent or needing various housing assistance. There were also calls asking for help with utility payments such as electricity. Similar needs were also asked for among residents in the entire northeast region, with over 2,200 contacts made last month.

Snyder – 20 contacts made; 15 rent; 7 housing related needs
Northumberland – 102 contacts made; 54 rent, 28 food, 27 electric, 24 community shelters, 20 housing related needs
Montour –3 contacts made, all for housing related needs
Region – 2,216 contacts made; 929 rent, 511 electricity payments, 503 for housing related needs
