Electric Rate Expert Says Now is Time to Save on Your Electricity

Tips to Save on your Electric Bill

SELINSGROVE – With PPL Electric Utilities’ rate increase starting in June, many customers in the area are looking to find more ways to save.

Selinsgrove resident and former PPL employee Dalton Savidge says there is a way to do it, and its simply by shopping around, but still not a lot of people know about it, “From what I understand, based on my personal experience and talking to other people, only about one third of PPL customers shop, which means two thirds do not.”

Savidge says the easiest way to shop is online at papowerswitch.com, where there are 40 different companies listed, “Besides the kilowatt hour rate, there are some other charges that could be added to your bill that you may not realize. You can look at that website, see two companies that have the exact same kilowatt hour rate, let’s say it comes up to $80, you look at the next one down and its $140.”

For people without computer or internet access, you can do this by phone, but do it early, “You can call 1-800-DIALPPL. The only thing is there are a lot of people calling in. I tell people if you’re gonna call in, call at 8:01. If you call after 9 a.m., you could sit there for an hour, maybe an hour-plus.”
