Medication Take Back Program to Take Place in Shamokin

United in Recovery Alcohol Awareness Month Events

 

SUNBURY – This month is Alcohol Awareness Month and United in Recovery is promoting upcoming events. They say they have a poster contest for some area high schools and a medication take back event at the end of this month.

Loreen Comstock, United in Recovery Outreach Facilitator for the Columbia-Montour County United Way, “(The contest) will have a substance-free theme, each person is eligible to win some great prizes, $500 for first prize. They will be judged on overall concept, originality, creativity, and artistic merit,”

She says the poster contest runs until April 25 and is open to Benton, Berwick, Central Columbia, Northwest, & Vo-Tech school districts.

She also tells us about showings of A Star is Born (2018) will take place Sunday April 24 at 2 and 7pm at the Berwick Theater. Before and after the showing will be resources available to learn about addiction and how to reach out for help in the community.

Olivia Oden, Stigma Reduction Coordinator with United in Recovery says they are teaming up with Oasis Community Recovery Club in Shamokin, “How to dispose of your medication properly, we have take back bags.”

“If folks do happen to bring in their medication, we’ll have a member from the Shamokin Police Department to transport the medication to a disposal system.” She says the medication take back is April 30 from 10am to noon, at the Shamokin Library on Independence Street.
