Corman on Governor: I’m Not Interested in Title, But Doing the Job

BELLEFONTE – GOP Gubernatorial Candidate and current State Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-34th, Bellefonte) is taking a different approach to the packed governor’s race.

Corman told WKOK’s On The Mark Friday he’s not interested in just the ‘title’ of Governor, and he’s not afraid to lose, “I’m running for governor to do the job as governor. I’ve always made a career taking on the big, difficult issues. I’m not afraid of them. I think if you do that and you’re successful, then the politics will take care of itself and you do get reelected. But if you sit there worried about getting reelected and worried about political popularity, than you’re not going to be very successful.”

He says the packed GOP race for Governor is still far from over, despite being fifth in the latest polling, “If you notice in the polls in the last x amount of weeks, no one’s really moved anywhere. It’s sort of just stagnant. There’s still like 40% undecided, and so that’s the mother load of any campaign. It’s not so much the horse race, its the undecided voters, and there’s a lot of them out there.”

But Corman still took plenty of shots at Governor Tom Wolf, especially on the fallout of the redistricting fight.

Corman says redistricting for the U.S. Congressional districts is ‘broken,’ “This governor had no interest in engaging with us. Therefore, it ultimately went to the courts. In my years, we’ve always come up with some sort of a negotiation with the governor and got it done. This year, for whatever reason, Governor Wolf figured he had a better chance to get more democrats elected if they courts drew it instead of us. That’s unfortunate, that’s not the way government’s supposed to be. This governor is the most partisan governor I’ve ever worked with.”
