Ashes to Go to Kick off Lent
SELINSGROVE – Another year of “Ashes to Go” by the Selinsgrove Ministerium. This Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, the faithful can receive ashes outdoors. From 9am to 5pm at the Selinsgrove Commons, organizers also encourage people to nail responses to a wooden cross.
Ashes can still be spread on the forehead or hand of those who can attend, but “Ashes to Go” allows people who might not have time to participate in usual church activities to stop by and receive the, “symbolic act of becoming aware of one’s mortality,” says Pastor Dietmar of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
A new addition of a large, wooden cross to nail answers to the following questions to reflect on one’s life;
-What weighs on you?
-What holds you back?
-What do you struggle with?
