Lewisburg Ice Festival Could Be ‘Biggest One Yet’

LEWISBURG – Expectations are high for this weekend’s Lewisburg Ice Festival:

“We’ve got carving both Friday and Saturday this year, so that kids can come out Saturday morning and see some big ice sculptures being carved.”That’s Lewisburg Downtown Partnership Executive Assistant Lynn Ragusea.

Ice carving begins at 10 a.m. Friday in front of Hufnagle Park and at noon in front of the post office building on Market Street – both stations will run all day.

Then there’s lots happening Saturday, including The Polar Bear Plunge at the St. George Street landing at 2 p.m.

“We think its going to be the best plunge ever. It certainly could be the biggest. We’ve had amazing registration totals and usually a lot of people show up that day, which we can accept. The weather’s looking good for it, of course Chief (Jamie) Blount (of the William Cameron Engine Company) will make the determination that day to make sure its safe.” That’s Taylor Lightman, Lewisburg Neighborhoods Executive Director.

94KX’s Sam Tyler will take part in this year’s polar plunge as well.

Then there’s The Chocolate Tour from 11-4 p.m. that will be pandemic friendly, “So it’s going to be a little bit more of a chocolate flight as opposed to a chocolate tour, where you’re going to get to pick up a box of chocolates, its gonna be about 10 chocolate goodies in a box. Right now I belive you can pick them up at The Cookie Dude and Meixell-Diehl Insurance, and then hopefully you’ll enjoy your chocolate while meandering through the ice sculptures.”

Saturday also features the Frosty 5K at 9:30a.m. in front of the Campus Theatre, with registration at 8 a.m. Ice carving will continue at 10 a.m. in front of the Greenspace Center, and there will be children’s activities there as well from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Hearty Chili Cook Off will wrap up the day at 3 p.m. Hear more details at WKOK.com.
