Northumberland County Staffing Issues Lead to Departments Merger

Northumberland County Departments Merged  In Part, Due to Staffing Issues

SUNBURY – Two Northumberland County departments recently were merged due to several staff changes within one of the departments, county’s Veterans Affairs Department.

The Northumberland County Commissioners say they recently merged the County’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and the Veterans Affairs Departments (VAD) in an effort to stabilize the County’s Veterans Affairs program.

Several changes and promotions have been made amongst the two departments due to the merger including Karen Leonovich, who is now serving as the Administrator for both the AAA and the VAD. She says during this transition, VSO’s from surrounding counties are providing assistance for the County’s Veterans.

The Department of Military & Veterans Affairs based at Fort Indiantown Gap is also assisting one if its VSO’s to the County. The Veterans Affairs Office is now housed within the Area Agency on Aging, 322 North Second Street, Sunbury.

If you are a veteran, regardless of age, and need assistance, please contact the Northumberland County Veterans Affairs Office at 570-988-4213 or 570-495-2395 Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
