Steve Jones Celebrates 30 and 40 Year Milestones with Penn State

Steve Jones – Penn State Anniversary: “I’m not done yet”

SUNBURY – He’s been the voice of Penn State for decades, and it’s safe to say Steve Jones isn’t hanging up his headset any time soon. Celebrating 40 years at Penn State, Steve Jones,  basketball and football anouncer sat down with WKOK Sunrise to discuss his career and revealed he’s got more years ahead of him at the commentating booth.

“I’m not even close to being done in my career! Yes, I would love idealistically, now whether Penn State agrees with this or not we’ll have to find out, but I’d love to be doing this for the next 10 to 15 years,” he said.

Reflecting on his time with Penn State, Jones revealed he gained practical experience working alongside Gil Santos, John Graham and others, and that helped him to decide to work for Penn State.

“I remember thinking that when I was a freshman here at Penn State. I mean but that’s how quickly it felt; I already had a natural affinity for Penn State to begin with. It was already in my blood.”

In addition to announcing for Penn State, Jones is also a part of the WKOK team and hosts his own show, The Steve Jones’ Show for the station. On his WKOK work, he says, “There’s just a different kind of vibe and commitment to it that I think is really special. And WKOK has allowed me to thrive in the job and WKOK has allowed me to go out, be me, but at the same time in a family atmosphere.”

You can hear Jones discuss his career at length on the WKOK podcast page.
