Susquehanna Life Magazine Ending With Winter Issue
SUNBURY – Erica Shames, Founder and Publisher of Susquehanna Life magazine has announced her retirement at the end of the year. With Shames’ impending retirement, the Susquehanna Life Magazine will also see its final publication with its winter issue.
Shames discusses why she’s retiring, “Probably started when my husband retired early from Bucknell. Which of course got me thinking, what would it look like if I just retired from Susquehanna Life, took some time off, do some traveling and maybe focus on telling the stories.”
On whether she’ll sell the magazine, Shames say’s it’s unlikely as she doesn’t want to see SL change from what it is, “It’s always been important to me that advertising editorial like church and state. We don’t sell articles, articles are in the magazine because they’ve passed editorial muster in terms of their interests level or what they can teach or what they can do to entertain.”
Along with starting a family, publishing Susquehanna Life was a time consumer for Shames she doesn’t regret making, “There were a lot of times I wanted to give up, there was no doubt. And the magazine kind of had taken hold of me, I had created this thing and there was no way that I was gonna give until I made this successful. That was really my goal.”
