SHAMOKIN– While COVID-19 numbers fluctuate and were surging lately, officials at a local hospital say they are handling current patient loads needs well.  Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital Co-Chair of Emergency Medicine Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick talked to WKOK about how his hospital adapted.

“As such, we’ve standardized our processes, so the care you get at any of our hospitals will be the latest and the most up-to-date approach,” Morgan said.

Geisinger Shamokin Hospital Administrative Director Michael Morgan says Geisinger Shamokin also has kept up safely with surgical procedures during the pandemic.

“We’ve done such things as pre-surgical COVID tests, and proper masking of patients, visitors, and staff.  That’s just a few of the many conventions we have put in place to make sure that no matter who is coming through the doors, they are remaining safe,” Morgan said.

The hospital near Shamokin is currently undergoing upgrades to the Emergency Department.  The $10 million project started in August. You can hear more about GSACH on the WKOK podcast page
