MONTOURSVILLE – There has been a theft in Lycoming County at a bank near Williamsport. State troopers say the Service 1st Federal Credit Union in Loyalsock Township was where theives used an ATM to steal $48,000. They say cyber-criminals went to the ATM, gained access to the internal system of the machin.
From there they say they got the machine to dispense about $48,000. They called the system they used ‘jackpotting’ and their investigation is ongoing.
Online dictionaries describe jackpotting: deploying malware and intercepting communications between the ATM and it’s headquarters.
It happend December 6th or 7th, the suspects they say were only described as two hispanic males in a silver Toyota Corolla.
