15th annual Tree Fest of Children’s Books starts December 1

SELINSGROVE – Christmas trees with children’s book themes will once again light up the Valley. The 15th annual Tree Fest of Children’s Books is starting soon, run the by the Friends of the Rudy Gelnett Memorial Library in Selinsgrove. The tree fest will run from December 1-20.

Joyce Hendricks, President of the Friends of the Rudy Gelnett Memorial Library, “It’s a wonderful event at the library. It’s enchanting to stand outside the library and look in the windows and there’s a tree in every single window. It’s inviting.”

Each year, Hendricks says volunteer decorators come to the library to decorate the trees and donate books to the library, “Those books are donated by the decorators and so it increases the number of books and the different kinds of books we have in the library too.”

Each tree is then judged, and certificates are awarded. The public is also invited to vote on their favorite tree by purchasing a vote ticket. Admission is free. The friends will also be selling “Tiny Trees,” which are foot-and-a-half trees decorated for sale.

All proceeds from the tree sale and vote tickets go towards the library’s summer reading program. Hear more about this year’s tree fest at WKOK.com.
