SUNBURY – For the 10th year in a row, the Pennsylvania One Book initiative is underway as part of the Every Young Child Early Literacy Initiative. This year’s book is Number One Sam, written and illustrated by Greg Pizzoli.
Children in local daycares, schools and preschools will receive a copy of the book in an effort to support early childhood literacy efforts and to emphasize the importance of reading early and often to children.
Community readers will also visit local childcare centers to read the book. WKOK’s Mark Lawrence visited SUM Child Development Inc. in Lewisburg to read to kids this week, “He pulled up to the start, and he wished ‘Good luck’ to his best friend Maggie, and he revved his engine. What did Maggie say?” One of the children then answered, “Good luck!).”
One Book, Every Young Child is made possible through a collaboration of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and other organizations.
