10th anniversary of Applebee’s fundraiser for Camp Cadet

Camp CadetLEWISBURG – One of Camp Cadet’s biggest fundraisers of the year is this Wednesday.  For 10 years, Applebee’s Restaurant of Lewisburg has been hosting Celebrity Service Night to benefit Susquehanna Valley Law Enforcement Camp Cadet.  The camp allows children to learn more about law enforcement, team work, discipline and building self-esteem.

Trooper Rick Blair helps organize the camp in June, “The first couple of days, they’re not used to that structure.  They are not used to not having their cell phones and computers and Mom and Dad around.  But, then usually come Wednesday, they get it.  They are up early.  Really their attitude changes with the physical training in the morning.  They really get into it.  And, by the end of the week, a lot of times they say to us they don’t want to go home.”

Anita Powell is general manager at Applebee’s and has been a part of the fundraiser since it started ten years ago, “It is a great cause and we are just happy to be a part of it and be able to help out and that’s why we do it every year.”

The wait staff will be local police officers. Diners at Applebee’s Lewisburg Wednesday can leave tips to benefit Camp Cadet.  For each $10 tip received, the diner will receive a $10 coupon for their next visit at Applebee’s.  Celebrity Service Night is this Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.  To learn more about Camp Cadet, visit their website at www.svlecc.com.  (Ali Stevens)
