Woman Seriously Hurt after Pedestrian Accident

SHAMOKIN — A 48-year-old Shamokin woman was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when she was hit by a vehicle in front of Rite Aid in the first block of East Independence Street while attempting to cross the street.  Police said that a SUV being driven by a 29 year old woman on Independence street struck the woman as she was crossing the street. The victim, who was hit in the middle of the street, was transported by an ambulance from AREA Services to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The driver escaped injury.  Police did not release the names of the driver or pedestrian because the accident remains under investigation.  Crews were on scene for about an hour.
