Wanted Driver Flees, Damages Police Cars in Shamokin

SHAMOKIN – A man is wanted on an attempted murder charge in Shamokin after police say they had him during a traffic stop, he fled, damaging two police cars.

Shamokin police chief Ray Siko says the man hit a patrol car three times, and causing multiple accidents while fleeing.  42-year-old Jarrett Castelonia, with a last known address in Danville, is their suspect.

Officers say the incident occurred late Wednesday afternoon about 5:30pm on Vine Street; they knew they already had an active arrest warrant for fleeing and eluding police.

Officers say they attempted a normal traffic stop and ordered Castelonia out of his truck, but he put the truck in reverse and accelerated and rammed the patrol car. Officers say he did this ramming maneuver two other times and then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. They say he hit multiple vehicles and causing multiple accidents.

Officers Castelonia lost control of his car, they tried to stop him again, but using a heavy duty duel axle truck, he drove over the passenger front end of a patrol car

Officers say Castelonia continued fleeing through city streets and eventually they terminated the pursuit after fled out Route 125 at a high rate of speed.

Officer say Castelonia is now facing charges of attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer. There were no injuries reported during the incident.

In a social media post on the News-Item’s Facebook page, Castelonia accused officers of slander and defamation of character.
