Union Trail Crossing Project Part Of Regional Funding

LEWISBURG — A busy Route 15 crossing along the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail is set for a major safety upgrade in Union County.

PennDOT says the Union County Trail Authority will receive $1.8 million for a signalized crossing and raised pedestrian center island at the heavily traveled highway intersection.

The funding is part of more than $74 million awarded statewide through the federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program. PennDOT says the grants support pedestrian, bicycle, and safety projects across Pennsylvania.

Other projects include $1.5 million for Phase Three of Shamokin’s Independence Street streetscape project. Lycoming County is also receiving $1.5 million to extend the Susquehanna River Walk.

Mifflin County will receive nearly $1.5 million for sidewalks and bike lanes along Electric Avenue and South Logan Boulevard. Schuylkill County is getting $1.38 million for trail and bridge improvements along the Schuylkill River Trail corridor.
