Union County Investigating Ransomware Attack

LEWISBURG – Union County is investigating a ransomware attack that compromised personal data related to law enforcement, court matters, and other county business. The county commissioners say the cyberattack was detected on March 13, and experts were brought in to secure the network.

They say by March 17, officials confirmed cybercriminals stole certain data, including Social Security and driver’s license numbers.  A public notice is posted at www.unioncountypa.org, and affected individuals will be notified.

The county is now stepping up security and urges residents to monitor financial accounts for unusual activity. Union County Commissioner Chair Preston Boop said the privacy and security of the information we maintain is very important to us.”
