Two Crashes, Including Horse and Buggy in Union County

LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP UNION COUNTY A two vehicle crash involving a horse and Buggy Friday afternoon in Union county sent several people to the hospital .. Milton state police report that just before 4pm – 72 year old Dean Walter was traveling north on Route 104 in Limestone township and failed to see a horse and buggy being driven by 28 year old Ruth Zimmerman striking them. Zimmerman and two passengers in the buggy were ejected upon impact and the the vehicle continued across the road striking an embankment. Troopers said that Walter, Zimmerman and two children a baby and 5 year old were all transported to Geisinger medical center for treatment. State police were assisted on the scene by Mifflinburg fire and ambulance, William cameron fire and ambulance, Geisinger EMS and PennDot.


A second crash just about two hours later also occurred in Limestone township, Union county this time on Route 304. State police said that 25 year old James Leinbach was traveling near the intersection with Smith road and failed to observe a vehicle stopped waiting to turn left and struck the back of the vehicle operated by 75 year old Michael Bender. Troopers said that both Leinbach and Bender were transported to Geisinger medical center for treatment of their injuries. Police were assisted by Evangelical EMS and rescue and New Berlin fire company.

Police said that Walter and Leinbach will both be charged for careless driving for causing the crashes.
