Three-Day Tattoo Expo in Sunbury

SUNBURY – The News Item is reporting…. An inaugural tattoo exhibition will bring local and out-of-state tattoo artists, bands, and painters to Sunbury for a three-day event next weekend.  Ink in the Rink Tattoo Expo will begin promptly at noon June 7-9 at the James R. Eister Youth and Community Center, 149 Memorial Drive, Sunbury.

The expo will run until about 10 p.m. June 7 and 8, and till 8 p.m. on June 9.  According to event organizer Chris Bucher, 44, of Sunbury, Ink in the Rink will feature 150 tattoo artists, as well as 25 bands and some local painters.

He said artists from Shamokin-based shops, including Dapper Tattoo, Tranquility Tatto and Art Studio and Darkline Tattoo, as well, are scheduled to attend. Other artists will represent Sunbury-based shops like Knuckles and Needles and Body Mods Ink.

Joseph Stewart, owner of Darkline Tattoo, said Ink in the Rink will be the second expo the studio will attend, “It’s an amazing opportunity that (Bucher) is putting on the first annual convention, especially for some artists in the area that are like diamonds in the rough,” he said.

Stewart said he was excited when Bucher initially reached out to offer them a booth at Ink in the Rink, and having the opportunity to push himself further in his tattoo career at a local expo is “heartwarming.”

Stewart is a graduate of Shamokin Area High School and has been part of the tattoo industry for 18 years. His biggest artistic influences were his high school teachers, Kevin Styer and Shawn McGugan.
