Sunbury woman accused of murder in the death of her baby

SHAMOKIN – A Northumberland County woman is facing murder and aggravated assault charges after the death of her infant.

Shamokin police say they’ve accused 38-year-old Krystal Semerod of Sunbury; they say her seven-month-old child was taken to the Geisinger Shamokin hospital over the weekend. Police say the child was unresponsive when taken to the hospital by Semerod and expert medical examiners said it was a case of shaken baby syndrome.

Police say the child died Tuesday. No cause of death has been disclosed and an autopsy is pending.  Arrest records indicate Semerod is facing four felony charges including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. Reports indicate numerous police departments and county investigators were in on filing the charges.
