Shamokin Shooting Sends One to Hospital

SHAMOKIN – The News Item is reporting… A male gunshot victim was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after being wounded Tuesday afternoon on South Vine Street near the Shamokin-Coal Township border. 

Shamokin and Coal Township police are jointly investigating the 2:15 p.m. shooting incident.  Police say the victim was taken by ambulance to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where he underwent emergency room treatment before being flown to Geisinger, Danville.

Prior to being taken by ambulance to the hospital, the victim received emergency treatment in the lobby of the Shamokin Police Department. Police would not reveal how the victim got to the station after being shot.  A trooper from a state police forensic unit arrived at the city police station at about 5 p.m. to assist in the probe.

When asked if anyone was in custody as a result of the shooting, Roughton reserved comment. He also declined to confirm if the victim was an adult or juvenile and his hometown.  Due to the ongoing investigation, which is in its very early stages as of 5 p.m., Roughton said he couldn’t provide any other details regarding the shooting.
