WHTM Report: State Lawmakers Push to Legalize Marijuana

HARRISBURG (WHTM) — Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are pushing to legalize marijuana, arguing it could be a financial goldmine for the state. Advocacy organization FTI Consulting projects that Pennsylvania could potentially generate over $2.8 billion in sales and create over 45,000 jobs.

The company believes marijuana legalization could benefit the Commonwealth’s economy in a major way. Governor Josh Shapiro supports the use of recreational marijuana for adults, although it is illegal in Pennsylvania.

Brendan Casey of FTI Consulting says, “As a result, jobs are supported in the supply chain, then those jobs supported in the supply chain and those original jobs go to those workers who need to buy groceries, go to sporting events, go to restaurants, they support jobs in their local communities.”
