RICHFIELD – Nearly two dozen volunteer fire crews from several counties have been battling a large brush fire on Shade Mountain in Snyder County.
Central Susquehanna Regional 911 says there are 18 fire companies on scene as of 8:50 p.m. Friday and have been battling the blaze since 11:40 a.m. State DCNR officials are also on scene.
Snyder County Commissioner Chairman Joe Kantz told WKOK Friday evening 3-7 acres are ‘definitely burned,’ and conditions have worsened thoughout the day and into the evening. Kantz says the fire started mainly on top of the mountain and has been spreading to the Richfield side.
He says fire crews are out protecting cabins at the bottom of the mountain. Kantz and county EMA officials say there is no threat to the public at this time.
