Montandon Man Charged with Homicide Makes False Rape Claim

COAL TOWNSHIP – The News Item is reporting…  A 22-year-old Montandon resident charged with stabbing to death another man Feb. 23 in West Chillisquaque Township now faces a misdemeanor offense of making false reports to police after allegedly lying to police that he was raped at Northumberland County Jail.

Coal Township police say Preston Bennett II is charged because of statements he made to police while being treated in the emergency room at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 27 after claiming he ingested methamphetamine.

While at the hospital, Bennett told the nursing staff that he was raped at the jail and requested to speak with police.  After collecting information, police questioned Bennett on where the rape fit into his story. Bennett then repeatedly admitted that there was no rape and only claimed he was raped so he could be transferred to another jail.

Video footage of the cells where Bennett was incarcerated showed none of the incidents occurred.
