DANVILLE — Geisinger, Central Susquehanna Opportunities and Giant are creating a mobile food pantry to help feed hungry families. The mobile pantry is expected to launch in early 2024 in targeted underserved areas and will aim to serve 75 households in its first year. The mobile unit will be available to anyone in need, according to Geisinger. The Giant Company will make a $600,000 commitment to the project. Organizers say solving food insecurity is a not a small feat in Pennsylvania with more than a million residents struggling with it in 2022, according to the state Department of Human Services.
The Giant Company has partnered with Geisinger on several projects including Fresh Food Farmacy program, Children’s Miracle Network and Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, and has committed more than $8.5 million to Geisinger initiatives.
