Milton Grandmother Raising Granddaughter Seeks Assistance

Here. For Good.

MILTON — Once again, a story about a family that stands to benefit from your generous contribution to Here. For Good. A Milton woman who has been raising her granddaughter for four years sought the help of the Salvation Army’s Here. For Good campaign.

Julie, of Milton, said her granddaughter’s mother died when the girl was 6 and she came to live with Julie. They have been living off Julie’s social security and her mother’s social security, “It has been really rough, with needing new clothes and new boots…It was quite a hard time. I could never really afford to get her gifts. It’s been overwhelming, but it’s all about her. She’s the priority.”

Her granddaughter, who has been behind on her education, would love clothing and art supplies for Christmas, “We do a lot of crafts together and we make a lot of things,” said Julie.
This is not the first year that Julie has received assistance from the Salvation Army. The organization has also provided math and reading flashcards for the young girl. “They have helped tremendously,” said Julie. “I wouldn’t be able to make it (Christmas) happen without them.”

The Here. For Good. Campaign is a continuation of the Needy Family Fund which has raised more than $3.35 million since 1987 during the holiday season to help the Valley’s families. This year’s goal is $250,000. The campaign is administered by Salvation Army citadels in Milton and Sunbury and sponsored by The Daily Item, Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. and Mifflinburg Bank & Trust.
